Marine Stewardship Council - MSC

Traceability of fishery products

The MSC environmental standard for sustainable fisheries is based on the UN Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries - FAO. Since 1995, this code is the reference frame to promote an environmentally friendly and sustainable fishing activity. The code establishes principles and standards for the conservation, management and development of fisheries throughout the world.

After more than 20 years of work, MSC has become the most used certification and eco-labeling program for the recognition of sustainable fishing and with greater recognition and influence in the consumer when deciding the best seafood products to buy.

MSC represents the commitment of Congalsa with the goals of conservation and sustainable use of marine resources

Fisheries certified under MSC chain of custody seal have made significant improvements in their capacity and ability to manage the resources of their ecosystem.

Currently, more than 12% of the total world catches are MSC certified. Some 300 fisheries in 34 countries have been evaluated independently and have made numerous improvements to obtain and maintain its certification. These measures contribute to maintain more stable and abundant fish stocks, minimize by-catches and the impact on the ecosystem, and expand scientific knowledge and strengthen fisheries management.

Since 2014, Congalsa joins the more than 3,700 companies certified with the blue seal of MSC, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by obtaining the certification granted by this eco-label. The entire range of hake products that are produced by Congalsa, is made with MSC certified raw material, guaranteeing its traceability and sustainable origin from the ocean to consumer's table.
